1. Quando vocês se conheceram?

Desde sempre... Eu, Filipe e a Dani somos primos e a Carol conhecemos no colégio bem pequenos. Viramos grandes amigos e agora ,sócios também.

2. Como decidiram montar a Suite 114? Quando Foi?

A Suite nasceu através de um grande amigo nosso, o Louiz. Ele enxergou o potencial da nossa união, participou no início, do primeiro projeto, mas acabamos seguindo nós três. Depois foram surgindo novos projetos, e mais novos, e quando vimos estávamos com o escritório engatilhado.

3. Porque o nome Suite 114?

O primeiro ano do escritório funcionou na Suite 114 do Sofitel em São Paulo. Surgiu do hábito a palavra mais falada entre nós era Suite, e quando percebemos o escritório já tinha nome e sobrenome: Suite 114 Arquitetos.

4. Onde começou a carreira de vocês?

A Carol trabalhou no escritório do Bernardes e jacobson, a Dani foi coordenadora de arquitetura do Gui Mattos por 6 anos e eu Filipe, trabalhei com o arquiteto escocês George Millis e em seguida oram 3 anos com a Triptyque.

5. Algum projeto em especial que vocês gostaram mais de fazer?

Pergunta difícil... todos são exclusivamente especiais. Cada um tem peculiaridade... vou escolher 3 que mais gostamos; a Pink Elephant em Porto Alegre, foi super bacana, tivemos muita liberdade para criar e brincar com iluminação. A Triya do Shopping Iguatemi também foi muito especial e atualmente estamos desenvolvendo o projeto de uma casa de alto padrão que está ficando sensacional.

6. Vocês se inspiram em algum profissional?

O tempo todo. Construir nossas idéias a partir de referências de arquitetura, design, moda, cinema, artes plásticas e por ai vai. Tudo está absolutamente conectado... vou citar alguns;

Arquitetos: Big, Daniel Libeskind, John Pawson.

Designers: Kontantin Grcic, Droog.

Estilistas: Gareth Pugh, Marigela.

Artistas: Dan Flavian, Linn Olofsdoter, Jenny Holzer

7. Qual o estilo de vocês?

Acredito que m arquiteto precisa de muitos anos para ter isso perfeitamente claro. Por enquanto nos experimentamos, exercitamos junto ao estilo de nossos clientes. Poderia dizer que assumimos a postura comtemporânea, enxergamos cada projeto com uma nova oportunidade de re-inventar arquitetura. O céu é o limite...

8. Um projeto e um profissional que vocês admiram?

A Catedral de Sementes do Thomas Heatherwick, para a expo Shangai 2010. É uma obra que evidencia o potencial de tranbalhar paralelamente a estática, funcionalidade e a experimentação de materiais inusitados.

9. Quais são os projetos do momento?

Atualmente estamos desenvolvendo alguns projetos residenciais e alguns comerciais, que são: Casa IV (arquitetura); Casa CPM (arquitetua); Apartamento Leopoldo (interiores); Apartamento Horácio 1 (interiores); Apartamento Horácio 2(interiores); Instalação Ohtake (interiores); Apartamento Morumbi (interiores); Apartamento Cidade Jardim (interiores); Apartamento Villa Lobos (interiores); Loja Skara (arquitetura); Loja Lolitta Iguatemi JK; Loja Arestta Iguatemi Alphaville; Loja Princess Iguatemi SP; Loja Princess Iguatemi Alphaville; Atelie de moda no Itaim

As I sit alone in my kitchen, writing, I wonder is anyone reading my blog out there? And enjoying it? It is immensely satisfying and encouraging when the answer comes back as a yes :)

Three lovely bloggers sent me awards over the last few weeks. I am immensely honored and choked up to have been selected. In return, I am to blog 7 things about myself (listed here).  For a twist, I will list 7 things about my new country to add to my previous list here. And yes, I keep a notepad in my car and purse :)

1. 'Chocolate Box Cottage' is a general term used for a quaint character home

2. A 'snug' is a cozy little room usually with a fireplace and a place to sit to read or chat. You can find a 'snug' in old houses and pubs. Love that word!

3. 'Pudding' is a general term for dessert. 'Tea' is a drink but also means early dinner. This is important to know when an English family comes over 'for tea', they are hungry and looking forward to a meal - not finger sandwiches and fancy teacups (like I provided. Oops)

4. At the post office the clerk kept calling me 'love' at the end of every few sentences. When I retold my husband, he asked 'Did you want to hit him with your handbag?'  I replied, 'Are you kidding? I kept getting back in line again and again!'

5. I whispered to my husband, 'Did she actually just ask if I would fancy something else to eat?' My husband whispered back with a smile, 'Yes, she did'

6. The English have super-power hearing. They talk a lot quieter than Americans, and when they whisper I could swear they move their lips in complete silence

7. The English Easter Bunny drops chocolate eggs in the garden. No baskets, plastic eggs, or fake grass - that is the American Easter Bunny's tradition

The 'Stylish Award' came from eye-candy Flowerona and lovely expat Brit Abroad in USA. The 'Blog With Substance' Award was from fashion/home decor blog Lulliloo. Obviously all with good taste in good reads :)

Keeping in the spirit, I'd like to award Serenity Now for the 'Blog With Substance Award'. She has created 'Weekend Bloggy Reading' on Fridays as a place for bloggers to link their best post of the week. I think that is a great idea.

1. Quando foi que vocês decidiram que queriam seguir na carreira de

arquitetura?

Foi desde pequena que nós decidimos seguir na carreira de arquitetura, que por coincidência o avô de nós duas, eram arquitetos. E como admirávamos muito eles, fomos pegando o gosto.

2. Quanto tempo estão na área?

Já estamos á 10 anos.

3. Onde vocês começaram suas carreiras?

- Fabiana: Comecei no escritório do Carlos Bratke, a experiência foi muito boa pra mim e pra minha carreira.

- Rafaela: Eu comecei no escritório da Patrícia Salgado, aprendi muito por lá, e que está sendo muito válido pra mim até hoje.

4. Como foi a decisão de se unirem, para começar a trabalhar juntas?

Foi sem querer, saímos ao mesmo tempo do último lugar que trabalhamos e uma

convidou a outra pra fazer um projetinho de um closet, depois uma decoração

de uma sala, e assim foi indo, quando vimos estávamos fazendo várias coisas

juntas.

5. Vocês se inspiram em algum profissional?

São vários, mas os que nós gostamos mais são; Bernardes e Jacobsen e do Dado Castello Branco.

6. Quais foram os projetos que mais gostaram de fazer?

Todos que fazemos adoramos, é engraçado, porque sempre que acabamos algum, ele

fica sendo o nosso preferido...

7. Qual o estilo de vocês?

Contemporâneo. Mas sempre gostamos de mesclar com o estilo do cliente.

First Fab Confab

Come pull up a chair in my English countryside tent and grab some tea - I have a new little idea brewing. I have so many questions in my head that I'd like to know your opinion and get some good conversation going. 

To give myself some structure, I've decided occasional Wednesdays will be 'Fab Confab' days. And 'Friday Fun' tends to land on, you guessed it, Fridays :)  I hope you will join in the conversation so I don't hear the sound of crickets and feel the cane hook me Stage Right.

I just ''thesaurused'' the word 'chatter' (well, actually 'natter') and came up with 'confab'. It rhymes with 'fab' - well, it actually has the word in it so I don't know if that counts as a rhyme. Plus I just increased my vocabulary by one, and the day is still young! Ding ding ding ;)

It's no secret the English use a larger percentage of the dictionary than Americans. So in an attempt to increase my vocabulary, I told my husband that I did not like a particular author because his books are too 'verbose'. But then I wondered aloud if I meant 'varicose'...? I threw out the word 'vapid' too - but got a blank stare, so I should probably stay out of the 'V' section of the dictionary for a little while. Yep, a little vernacular vacation for me... 

Are you still there?

So here is my confab question to you. I had a boss who confessed that she casually walked by interviewees' cars to take a peek inside. To see what the person was really like. To see if they smoke, tidy, etc. Do you think this is fair? Or accurate? 

My car is typically dirty. I don't think it is practical to clean it when it will be dirty in a few days. Saves money. I have general kid messiness in the back of my car because I'm pretty laid back and choose to put my energy toward other things. Yet the look of my car could convey different messages to different people.
