So here is something your average tourist does not get to see: the inner workings of Victorian plumbing. Our home was built in 1898, the era of Queen Victoria.

We discovered this one day when our dishwasher was not working. We went outside to look under the cover outside our kitchen wall to investigate the drainage problem.


And then we took the cover off. Left pipe is our dishwasher. The right pipe is from the sink. (The black on the pipes is paint, not sludge.)


Look where it drains - it's just a floor drain! Once we realized our food from the disposal dumped out here, we stopped using it : )


This is our plumbing! So darn interesting!
